This is a historic year for the Lacy Foundation as we celebrate its 15th Anniversary! The Foundation received its non-profit corporate status back on July 18, 2001. The original Board of Directors consisted of five members, including principal Dr. Marcia Alford and community leader Casper Holroyd, Jr. The first meeting of the Foundation’s Board of Directors was held on December 10, 2001. At this meeting it was determined that the Lacy Foundation would “provide to Lacy financial assistance for additional staffing, additional benefits for faculty and staff, and capital improvements and assets…” The Foundation’s first payment for teaching positions was $20,000 for the 2001-2002 school year. Since 2001, the Foundation has played a critical role in supporting the students, staff and administration at Lacy Elementary. This year alone the Foundation has provided $169,800 for the 2016-2017 school year to support ten teaching positions that would not otherwise be available to Lacy students. These positions include second grade teaching assistants for every second-grade class-room, a Spanish teacher (grades 2-5), enrichment teacher (K-3), project based learning coordinator (K-5) and two reading intervention teachers (K-2). Each and every student at Lacy Elementary benefits from the positions funded by the Lacy Foundation! As the Foundation looks to the future, we believe that it is an important year to also celebrate the past. We are especially thankful for the members of the Lacy community who had the foresight to realize that funding additional teaching positions would provide a direct academic benefit to hundreds of Lacy students throughout the years! Thank you to all members of the Lacy community, past, present and future alike, for your continued support of the Lacy Foundation! -David Sherlin, President, The Lacy Foundation
